There is a Mount Cuthbert nearby. I found it by looking at the DOC website whilst searching for walks to do in Southland, it's raining today which is neither here nor there because it's usually raining, I just thought I mention it, I also thought I was leaving Te Anau today but it's tomorrow.
So first I did number 4 on the list, a really nice little waterfront walk which had an air of House at Pooh Corner about it at Manapouri, it was varied, delightful and twee.
Then to Monowai lake about 30km south to find Mt Cuthbert, the last 8kms are unsealed and I worried about Cuthbert's shoes. The information sign at the lake had a map a bit like the one here but no Mt Cuthbert, lots of other peaks were on the map but the map from the website only had 3 obvious points, Mt Cuthbert, Rocky Top and Cleughnearn Peak, the map at the information stand had lots of peaks and mounts but no Mt Cuthbert, I was expecting a big wooden DOC sign saying Mt Cuthbert in large proud letters at the start of the track. I did a short walk instead through the woods beside the lake and over some water control gates.
Shoe update: My trainers are dry now and I used my Brashers today and they are totally fixed, next time I need to glue something I'm going to use shoe glue, its cheaper then superglue, works better and comes in a big enough tube to be useful. I can fix shoes now.
