My 8.50am flight from Melbourne to Hong Kong I found my request for isle seats had not reached the airline -apparently if you book through an agent e.g. Flight centre they don't pass on seating requests or anything really so what's the point in asking, I won't be booking with them again. Not a good start, as it happened the I got an isle seat as someone wanted to swap so he could sit next to his friend so that was perfect and I had a nice person next to me who was fun and easy to talk to which always makes a journey more pleasant but 9+ hours later I was so ready for the plane to land with the last 30 miles taking forever it seemed and then a load of turbulence during landing which made me want to throw up.
I didn't throw up but I had a headache which didn't help.
I took the bus as recommended by Tim into town instead of the express train because its a third the price and actually took me nearer to where I was going anyway. The airport like most airports has signs everywhere for the express train, the train! the train is fastest way into the city! but I saw no signs where to buy the local travel card called the Octopus (like the Snapper, Oyster, Myki cards etc) and had to keep asking people until I triangulated the location of the counter. Then I took the bus which past lots of ugly hi rises, one of which I'm sitting in now. It was about 4.20pm when I was on the bus and the day looked dull and grey compared to the sun and colour of Australia, I'm sure glad I went for that swim yesterday.
It was then a short walk through busy bustling streets to the flat. It's another airbnb but the host is actually away so left instructions on how to get in, I was relieved to see the key in the place described. I have an entire apartment! Albeit a tiny one a little bit shitty but to get anything similar in a hotel would be hundreds per night, this is about 20 pounds per night! It's actually pretty cool, a complete contrast to the sprawling suburban houses in Australia I've stayed in.
Yesterday I had bought a quick to make packet meal for when I arrived, I knew after a long days travel going out to find dinner in Mong Kok wasn't going to be something I'd have any desire to do.
The weird thing is, Blogger has changed its language to Chinese, first how does it know I'm in Asia and why does it think that's helpful? Of course I can't change it back because its all in Chinese, I just know where the buttons are I need to make a entry, I remember it did this when I was in southern America it changed to Spanish.
50 shades of grey, a ha ha. ha. |
Very similar hue when we visited in March/2011 - smog probably! A wee bit nippy too.
ReplyDeleteYes its all a bit grey here, seems more like sea mist than smog.
